Antique Appraisals
Antique appraisal is a daily activity for us. Virtually every business day, people will bring us their vintage pieces to find out what they are worth and possibly sell them to us (we buy and sell antiques also). Since we have a professional apprais er on staff here at all times, we can offer an antique appraisal for any item that you bring in.
A word of caution – there are other places that will say they can offer antique appraisal services, but in reality they are only trying to buy your items from you at far below the price you should get. Don’t be fooled. Any true antique appraisal should only be done by someone who is not only knowledgeable and experienced, but has the credentials to back it up. When you come in to our store, you will meet Jim – he is our on-staff appraiser and fully certified. He has been performing appraisals for over 20 years, so you can be sure of accuracy and professionalism.
What kinds of items can you have appraised?
-
Watches – Bring in any watches, old or new, to see what they are worth.
-
Rings – We can appraise all types of gold or silver rings, wedding rings, engagement rings, etc. If you are liquidating an estate and come across one
ring or dozens, we can certainly perform an antique appraisal on any or all of them.
-
Coins – In general, older coins are worth more than newer ones, but there are exceptions to that. The rarity of a particular coin, as well as its condition, plays an important role in determining value. We can help you get that sorted out, whether you have a single coin or a collection of hundreds.
-
Artwork – We always love to see a nice vintage piece of artwork come through the door, because it can make for an interesting appraisal. The provenance of the item, the importance of the artist, and the actual quality and condition of the piece itself all play important roles in figuring out the value.
Some customers have been quite surprised when they find out the painting that hung in grandma’s dining room for 50 years is quite valuable!
-
Furniture – Furniture is another type of antique appraisal that we love to do. You may have something as small as a wine rack, or as large as a period buffet. If an item is too large for you to transport safely to our store, we will come to you for the appraisal. For furniture, the condition of the piece is a critical factor. Any damage will affect the value, even if it has been repaired. We would also check to see if the maker of the item is identified (by signature or otherwise). Some vintage craftsmen created furniture that is very high in demand, so the value would be higher.
-
Toys – Vintage children’s toys, such as cast iron banks, stuffed animals, dolls or trains can all retain substantial value. It may have been “just a child’s toy” at one time, but today there is a strong market for these items, driving up the value.
-
Jewelry – In addition to gold and silver rings mentioned above, we can do an antique appraisal on any other types of jewelry. Necklaces, brooches, earrings, pendants, pins, cufflinks, whatever you might have – don’t assume that it does not have worth. Let us be the judge. We might still tell you that its primary value is sentimental, but we have often been able to deliver very good news when an item appraises at a high value.
