Your unwanted jewelry may be someone else’s wise investment. There is a market among collectors and among people who like to invest in items made of precious metal and stones. They consider it an investment vehicle, like stock, gold or money in the bank. But it cannot make you any money sitting in your jewelry box. Bring it in for us to have a look. We may make an attractive cash offer on the spot.
You may have heard people use several different terms:
- Estate jewelry
- Antique jewelry
- Vintage jewelry
The explanation – although there are exceptions – is that estate jewelry simply means it was owned by someone else; vintage refers to an era, such as the 1940s; and the word antique refers to actual age. Antique jewelry is generally more than 100 years old. These treasures can be gold, sterling silver, and filigree with or without diamonds, rubies and other precious stones. If the stone has long fallen out, the setting may still have value. We are interested in seeing any of your pieces:

Filigree antique jewelry was extremely popular during the Art Deco period of the 1920s and 1930s and can be older as well. These extraordinary pieces feature finely detailed craftsmanship that has been meticulously finished by hand. Filigree pieces have become very popular again and are something of a fashion trend for this millennium. Bring your pieces in for appraisal and sale.
We will tell you which period your antique jewelry belongs to. The different design eras include Georgian, Early Victorian, Mid-Victorian, Late Victorian; Arts and Crafts era, Art Nouveau, Edwardian, Art Deco and Retro.
The Victorian period refers to the years of the reign of Queen Victoria in Great Britain from 1836 to 1901. Designs using flowers, hearts, bows and birds were common to the Victorian age. Gems were often used and diamonds were discovered in South Africa in 1867 and so they became popular during this period.
The Art Nouveau period was from roughly 1890 to 1919. Antique jewelry designs from this 30 year period were often supple curves, twisting lines, and soft colors. One issue affecting the value of jewelry from this era is that the art and design were considered more important than the materials used to make the pieces.
The Edwardian Period lasted from the turn of the century to 1920, taking its name from King Edward VII. You find a good deal of platinum in items from this era, as well as diamonds. Filigree in lacy patterns prevailed. The necklace style known as the “dog collar” was popularized by the King’s wife.
