You can sell diamonds even if the jewelry piece is broken. There may be some additional cash for you in the scrap value of the gold or silver setting, chain or locket. We may discover that you have a vintage or antique piece that is worth even more to you, if we purchase both the diamond and the jewelry. The offer for the ring or other item could be based on the value of the precious metal as well as the worth of the stone.
When you sell diamonds to us at our store, we use certified appraisal methods to assess the value. While sentimental value often outweighs actual value, the fact is that most gems have cash value you can reclaim from us. We’ll be looking at several criteria: The physical weight of the gem, called “carat”; the color of the stone (most often yellow brings the least valuation); we will assess how clear the diamond is – the “clarity”; and we examine how well a diamond reflects light, known as “cut”.
